While they may share a name Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) and Wild Bergamot (aka Bee Balm) couldn't be more different. The fruit peel of the citrus bergamot is what is used to make up the popular essential oil.
The scent is lightly floral and citrus with a hint of spice. The subtle scent pairs well with many other essential oils to create a blend that is pleasant and not overpowering. Bergamot is known for its many uses but here at the Hippie Homestead we feel that it shines best in these three areas:
Bergamot to Boost Your Spirit
If you're feeling down in the dumps, bergamot just may help. It is known to help boost cheerfulness, increase energy and blood flow, and promotes an overall feeling of happiness.
For a spiritual boost we've paired bergamot with frankincense and palo santo oils in the blend ENLIGHTEN.
Bergamot for Youthful Skin
Due to its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, bergamot makes a great addition to your skin care routine. It has been shown to reduce scars, tone the skin, and speed healing.
However, bergamot can cause sun sensitivity so be sure to use oils that are bergaptene free to eliminate this risk.

Bergamot to help you Sleep
While most citrus oils are known for their energizing qualities, bergamot is known for its calming properties. Bergamot can help lower your heart rate and blood pressure, signaling to your body that it is time for sleep. It helps to reduce anxiety and stress, promoting a deep and restful slumber.
To help you sleep we have combined bergamot with lavender, cedarwood, and clary sage in our SLEEP blend.
